This Supermarine S.5 from 1927 seems to have difficulty extricating itself from the cold waters of the Venetian lagoon. Without flaps, with their minimal wings, the “racers” have always been reluctant to leave the marine or terrestrial element: they were exclusively designed for pure speed.
